Named in honour of Boris Aleksandrovitch Gladkovsky (Борис Александровч Гладковского) (1937–1990), a well-known geologist and prospector of ore and alluvial gold in the Ural Mountains. He was chief geologist of the Geological Survey of Northern Urals and helped discover the Vorontsovskoe deposit, the biggest in Northern Urals and one of the most significant gold deposits in Russia.
