Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Hildesheim, Lower Saxony, Germany
Class:
Single Crystal
Size Range:
Micromount (under 1cm)
Size:
0.2 × 0.1 × 0.1 cm
Description

Two orange brown crystal aggregates of the very rare Fe chloride mineral rokühnite from the type locality in Hildesheim, Germany in a capsule

Analyzed specimen by SEM/EDS, see copy enclosed. Analysis show that it is Mg and K rich.

The mineral species is very higroscopic, from Mindat:  water-soluble; topotactical hydration and rapid oxidation in air. Due to probably this, a little hole has appeared in the transparent capsule, but the specimen is in good condition.

Rokuhnite is described as light green, but rapidly oxidizes and turns brown when exposed to air and moisture.

Ex Vandenbroucke Museum collection from Waregem, Belgium.
